Reaction to my Reiki Reseller Letter
I recently posted a note to Reiki resellers complaining of what I consider to be abuses by some. The letter was directed towards people who try to take advantage of and then profit off of the work of other Reiki Masters by undercutting them.
Please note that I do not think that all Reiki Masters who resell are taking advantage. Someone who goes and buys your system at full price and then resells it at a similar price isn't really the problem here. It's people who hover over your website, grab your attunements the minute you post them, share the cost of the attunement with a group of other resellers, and then repost your new work immediately at a huge discount so you, the founder, can't earn a legitimate living off your own work.
Since I posted that letter, I have gotten quite a few supportive emails (thank you). I have also heard from Reiki Masters who are changing their business models due to this problem. As I predicted in the letter, the more resellers take advantage, the less they'll be able to resell. The current trend is for Reiki Masters to stop allowing their systems to be resold by anyone. This is unfortunate in many respects, but a change that has been made in direct response to voracious resellers who show little regard for the people who give them their livelihood.
If you think I am overblowing this issue, I will share with you one poignant comment from another Reiki Master who I shall keep anonymous:
"I and my family will be homeless if this trend continues of people taking my work and selling it for practically nothing."
Our actions affect others. If you are taking advantage of Reiki Masters who generously allow their systems to be resold by you, what this person wrote above could be the result. Is that why you got into Reiki? To harm people in this manner? My anger on this issue was not just about me. It was about people like this Reiki Master who worry about paying bills.
Now, not all the reactions to my letter were positive. I knew some people were probably angered by my letter. I am actually surprised that so far only one negative response has arrived in my inbox. I decided to respond to it here because there are a few points I'd like to cover:
After reading your letter about no one donating the money u feel u deserve I
decided to stick my 2 cents in not that it means much. Personally I think
there are too many reki systems are so called people channeling them. What
ever it is. Look u so called created a money reik system and u are
complaining about money. Honestly now. If ur system does not work for u......
Is there something wrong? What about all of this law of attraction.... and ur
creating ur own reality. Your lack has nothing to do with no one sending u
tithes. What drives a price up or down is supply and demand. Too many so
called reiki systems and too many teachers. That is what has cheapened reiki.
Mikao Usui never asked or felt people should bring him tides or owed him
something for putting reiki in the world. What happen with him was divine. It
is too much of it going on for it to be from the divine now. All of these
systems is a trick to keep people from the true GOD. No one needs these
systems. Dont believe me ask Oprah. Or true followers of Christ.
OK, so it is clear by the end of the letter that this person isn't really into Reiki but is perhaps a religious person. I'm not sure how Oprah and Christ fit into the same thought process but let's just touch on Christ for a moment.
Jesus Christ was not all love and light all the time. Remember: This is the guy who walked into the temple and overturned the tables of the money lenders in a fit of righteous anger. Based on that story, I actually think Christ might be on my side on this issue. I could be wrong.
But back to the points brought up:
"After reading your letter about no one donating the money u feel u deserve"
Based on the amount of people who have benefited from my systems either personally or financially, yes, I do believe I deserve some donations. I don't have a problem saying that. Running a website takes a lot of work. Writing manuals is a lot of work. Doing the meditation and personal exploration to bring in new energies is work. Do I deserve some sort of compensation for it? Absolutely. I'm not independently wealthy. I don't have a sugar daddy. I have bills and rent to pay. How do you expect me to pay for the computers, the web hosting, and the other materials needed to get my work out there? With cotton candy? I need money.
"Personally I think there are too many reki systems are so called people channeling them."
This could be. I certainly had this feeling many years ago when I started my involvement in Reiki. What was the point of all these different systems? Since then, I have simply been guided to receive a lot of energies. Why not share them? People do seem to like them and benefit from them. A lot of the energies I have gotten are for specific purposes - Reiki shortcuts if you will, to tackle a specific issue. The energies of the planet change over time, and people change, so I believe there will probably always be a need for new energies.
"Look u so called created a money reik system and u are complaining about money. Honestly now. If ur system does not work for u......Is there something wrong?"
If you honestly think that Money Reiki is all about manifesting personal wealth then you either haven't studied it or, if you did study it, missed the point completely. Money Reiki is not about creating personal wealth. The energy was brought in because there is a huge problem worldwide with our money energy. The world energy of money is based in greed. The purpose of Money Reiki is to help shift the world energy of money into sustainable, giving, positive forms of money. It is not surprising to me at all that since Money Reiki came out, the entire world financial system practically collapsed. We are going through the transition now to new ways of money exchange. Unfortunately, things might get a little worse before they get better, which is why Money Reiki is even more important now than it was when I first brought it in. Wall Street and the global bankers are in control right now, and that hegemony needs to be dismantled completely. I am not a communist...I am actually a conscious capitalist, and my concern is that because the corporate financial giants have raped our wallets for their own gain, we could lose our freedoms if we're not vigilant. Replacing capitalism with something worse such as state-run communism is not the answer. But that's another article.
On a personal level, the Money Reiki energies that did serve to stabilize me financially no longer work for me personally because I'm at a different space energetically. This is why I brought in "Money Reiki for a New Reality" and the truth is, I am going through a personal transition right now as I shift from my past methods of earning a living into new ones. It is actually no accident that I am moving away from Reiki attunements since receiving Money Reiki for a New Reality. My letter here and other things going on in my personal life are part of that shift.
Money Reiki continues to help people around the globe and I get emails from people regularly about it to this day, many years after it was initially founded. It has been one of the most impactful and popular systems I've put out there.
"What about all of this law of attraction.... and ur creating ur own reality."
I do not now, nor have I ever, believed in the Law of Attraction. It is totally oversimplified. We co-create our realities. I also don't discount the impact of God in all this. So if people choose to resell my attunements at a drastic discount I can't physically stop them, but I can shift my ways of dealing with those people.
"Your lack has nothing to do with no one sending u tithes."
No, the lack has to do with resellers taking advantage and reselling my systems for cheap, which makes it hard for me to earn back the time I put into creating those systems. I am now asking for tithes to off-set that problem. Tithes are not the problem - but they can be part of the solution.
"Too many so called reiki systems and too many teachers. That is what has cheapened reiki."
I will disagree with you. Having too many Reiki systems and too many teachers is not cheapening Reiki. We have almost 7 billion people on the planet. In my opinion we don't have enough teachers. The problem is about getting Reiki out to the mainstream more, not having fewer teachers.
"Mikao Usui never asked or felt people should bring him tides or owed him something for putting reiki in the world."
Usui was a monk and lived in a different time. Most of us now are called to be householders not monks, meaning we are supposed to be living out in the world and integrating our work with money. This goes back to the Money Reiki, which is also about healers and teachers earning better wages, instead of strippers and sports stars. And, if you want to see more healers spending their energies on healing full-time, then sending them a donation or two would be putting your money where your mouth is.
It all comes full circle.
Namaste.

I cannot add anything further to the 2 eloquent statements which have already been posted to this blog. Other than to say that I have also been placed in a similar position as a Reiki Master. My work has not been valued from a financial standpoint for over a year now. I have cared for elderly relatives for the past 12 years and my Reiki attunements and healings have been my only source of income. I now find myself in a position where the utility bills and every other bill is now delinquent and the electricity will likely be shut off within days. Suffice it to say, that is the least of my worries now because there are greater financial problems looming.
I have no idea at this point if I will even have the time needed to shift away from Reiki and move onto other things such as coaching and mentoring services which the resellers cannot steal and I certainly will no longer be offering endless hours of free spiritual guidance to anyone whom asks me a question via email.
I too deserve to be supported financially, it is unfortunate that I am being forced to walk away from Reiki because people don't even offer a small tithe, even when they send feedback that they have experienced amazing healings. How sad that things have come to this.
Dr. Usui traveled around giving his healing for free to many people. He helped people with healing themselves and healing their financial issues, etc. He did this for free and people were healed. But then he made an astonishing discovery when he came back around to the people he had healed. The people that received his healing for free, were sick again or right back where they were before he healed them. This was his discovery: when people get something for free or at a discounted almost nothing price, they do not appreciate it because they did not earn it--they gave nothing back in return. It means little or nothing to them. Therefore they revert back to their old habits, etc. He began charging for his service of healing people or accepting donations. And he states this in the first part of his manuals that an energy exchange is necessary for people to respect and appreciate something and continue on a higher path. The energy exchange should be a fair amount. If you chip in with someone and buy an attunement for the price of $20 but your actual share of the cost was $5 because you chipped in and purchased it with a group of people. And then you resell it at a discounted price offer and you make $500 or more from the resale of the attunement--was the $5 you actually paid for your part of receiving the attunement a fair energy exchange with the person who put in the work to create it? No--it isn't because you only made an investment of $5 and you received $500. Is one percent a fair exchange? No.
The work of creating and channeling new reiki systems helps people. Many people use the energies and appreciate the energies. However, it takes a great deal of time, energies, and dedication to get a new system ready for people to use and work with. Compensation is necessary. You pay your doctor--don't you? You pay your pharmacist, don't you? You pay for your food, shelter, and etc. and you pay for the pretty sparkly things you get that you don't need like jewelry, fun gadgets, etc. And you have no problem with that. But you don't want to pay the holistic healers or spiritual teachers for their work. How insane is that to think that the people who work to teach you how to live better, should live in poverty? I must agree with Stephanie. I also must state that those who take advantage of others (they don't want to pay a fair energy exchange), work from fear, greed, and selfishness-- do you really want to receive your healing energies from someone like that?
